Jazzbass ultralight...!

Ich spiele bereits seit einigen Jahren einen Sandberg California II SL TM5 RB MN (5-string mit 3,2 kg), aus der ersten SL-Serie noch mit Zeder Body. Was mich neben dem Gewicht bei Sandberg immer wieder begeistert ist die makellose Verabeitung. Ich besitze noch einen Fender Roadworn Jazzbass und einen Fender American Performer II Precision V, bei beiden Instrumenten musste Halskrümmung, (beim US Preci auch der Halswinkel), Saitenlage und Oktavreinheit eingestellt werden, auch die Bünde waren nie perfekt abgerichtet. Meine Sandbergs waren nach dem Auspacken immer sofort spielbereit, da musste ich gar nix machen! Superflache Saitenlage ohne Schnarren (Plek-Verfahren!) und der thermobehandelte Ahornhals dieses SL TT4 ist opisch und haptisch ein Traum. Der Bass wiegt 2,9 Kg, das war für mich als Ü60-jähriger Sideman in drei verschiedenen Projekten ein "gewichtiges" Argument. Die SL Bässe klingen aber auch super (ich spiele immer passiv, als erstes kommt die Batterie raus...), sowohl live, als auch im Studio, da absolut brummfrei. Ich werde (leider) nicht von Sandberg bezahlt oder sonstwie protegiert, bin aber mittlerweile aus eigener Spielpraxis wirklich ein echter Fan dieser Firma und ihrer Instrumente.

Gewicht versus Sound

Der Bass ist ein Federgewicht. Was anfang sehr angenehm erscheint ist beim Spielen (für mich) einfach sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig.
Auch wenn der SL eigentlich einen tollen maskulinen Ton hat und der EQ sehr hochperformant ist, kommt es mir schon so vor, dass ihm einfach die Substanz fehlt ...auch im direktn Vergleich mit meinem BTW oder dem Booster aus dem Hause Sandberg . Ich hatte nun bei bassthewold eine ähnliche Einschätzung von Gregor gehört.
